Fauci Warns Government Of The Consequences Of Reopening Too Early

The US government top expert on viruses, Dr. Anthony Fauci, warned government in the latest appearance before the lawmakers, reopening may result in unbearable consequences. On Tuesday, in the testimony he stressed that “the consequences could be really serious”. Fauci is in quarantine with some other senior experts also quarantined.

Since Trump Administration pointed out the need to reopen to stabilize the economy, Dr. Fauci is never agreed. Lately, he had been suggesting the government to increase the number of tests before lockdown restrictions can be lifted step by step.

“My concern is that we will start to see little spikes that will turn into outbreaks,” Fauci said. The number of reported deaths due to COVID-19 is now more than 84,000. “Most of us feel that the number of deaths is likely higher than that number,” he said.

Fauci, 79, has been leading the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for more than 35 years and is a widely trusted expert. He further raised concerns that many people may have died at home due to COVID-19 without being tested as they never got to the hospital.

A few weeks ago, Fauci had advised the government to at least double the capacity of testing for COVID-19 before easing restrictions. He pointed out at the already frailing health system of the US. However, President Donald Trump didn’t value the virus expert’s advice and showed concern about the damaging economy of the state. Fauci considered that state may then never be able to recover its economy if another outbreak occurs.

The government claims to have been trying to provide 100 million vaccines by autumn and is considering reopening schools and businesses, but Fauci believes no vaccine or treatment will be ready by then. He further responded to government’s consideration of reopening as it assumes children are likely immune with saying that “I think we better be very careful, if we are not cavalier, in thinking that children are completely immune to the deleterious effects.”

The activity was carried out through a videoconference where senators had to keep a distance of 6 ft. The conference didn’t go very smoothly as the senators had to repeat the questions for the witnesses.

Trump Administration is still considering reopening. The government is appreciating the state which have reopened and is encouraging other states to ease the lockdown restrictions even though all the health experts are warning the committee to avoid “needless suffering and death(s)”.
