Every 10th of October, Mental health day is celebrated almost all over the world. This year celebrities along with other people celebrated this day on Thursday, 10th October 2019 by reviewing all the possible causes of suicide.
#WorldMentalHealthDay was trending on twitter for calling the attention of people to the current mental health issues.
The causes of the rise in mental illnesses rose above the trending news like dismiss of a manager because of Phillies, current political issues, and the latest album released by an artist.
Celebration of Mental health day back in 1992
The trend of celebrating mental health day began in 1992. However, this trend at that time did not gain so much importance and was less trendy.
It was the World Federation for Mental Health who decided to mark the 10th of October as a mental health day. With years of rising depression, schizophrenia, anxiety, aging, in children and adults, this year it became one of the most rising trends.
The most fight back challenges now are to fund a way to suicide prevention. Suicide has become one of the causes of deaths in the USA of people aging between 19- 29. Nearly 800,000 deaths due to suicide have taken place.
While on one side the United States of America wants to address this issue as soon as possible, the causes make it difficult to take any action. Mostly the suicide cases are linked with cyberbullying, sex abuse, and violence.
Each and everyone is looking at mental health from their own point of view. An argument rose by the people who did not support Rep. Jim Hagedorn’s public comment about a town hall in Winona.
Supporting his views through religious stuff he said about guns that, “I don’t believe in suicide. I think it’s terrible. My religious background tells me if you kill yourself, you go to hell. It’s a bad thing.”
Support of celebrities for the cause of mental health day
Some celebrities like Elizabeth Warren, Kamala Harris, and Bernie Sanders tweeted about mental health day supporting its cause.
Elizabeth Warren tweeted, “Everyone should get the mental health care they need and be treated with dignity and respect. I’ll fight to end the stigma around mental health—and under #MedicareForAll, every person will have comprehensive mental health coverage. #WorldMentalHealthDay”.
Kamala Harris, on the other hand, explained the need to go hand in hand and support people who are going through depression. She explains in her tweet that, depression is a rising cause of mental health disturbances in the United States of America these days.
All the tweets and trends received further support from the joint comedy clip of Prince Harry and Ed Sheeran. They stood together to spread awareness between the people. Although many people have tried to gain this attention, everyone failed to do so.
Bernie Sanders in his tweet is giving a wake call to people about the future rise of depression in America.
He tweets, “Almost half of all Americans will experience a mental illness during their lifetime. We have to take care of one another. In the wealthiest nation in the world, all of us, regardless of income, should have access to mental health care as a right. #WorldMentalHealthDay”.
