Rambutan is a tropical fruit from Indonesia, Malaysia, and Southeast Asia. Rambutan fruit is considered a “superfood’ because of its nutritional value.

It got its name “Rambutan” from the word “Malay” which means hair. This golf-ball-sized fruit has a hairy red and green shell, therefore, it is named so.

Rambutan fruit is closely related to the lychee and has a similar appearance when peeled. It has translucent white flesh and has a sweet taste. It contains a seed in its middle which also has a lot of health benefits.

Iron Source

Rambutans are a rich source of iron. Iron is essential for the normal functioning of the human body. Rambutans can be used to treat illnesses like anemia which is caused by iron Deficiency.

Gallic Acid Source

Rambutan contains “Gallic acid”. Rambutan peels are a rich source of Gallic acid. The use of highly concentrated extracts from the rambutan peels has a high amount of gallic acid than that present in the fruit flesh.  Gallic acid is associated with several health benefits. Gallic acid is considered to have cardio-protective properties.

Manganese Source

Manganese is present in Rambutan and helps in the following functions of the body:

  • It helps in the production of enzymes. Enzymes play an important role in the proper functioning of the body.
