Apple Cider vinegar

  • Use

Apple cider vinegar can be applied to the scalp several times a week. Cotton balls can be used to apply it on the scalp. After application, rinse it off as it dries. It can be used in concentrated or diluted form depending upon the condition of psoriasis.

There is no scientific research to confirm the effectivity of tea tree oil in treating Psoriasis, but Some people have found that its use can relieve scalp psoriasis. Capsaicin

Capsaicin is a chili pepper extract, having “Analgesic” qualities. Capsaicin helps in reducing nerve pain by blocking the nerve endings that transmit pain. These properties have led it to be used in creams to reduce pain. The researches of The University Medical Center Freiburg, Germany have suggested the use of capsaicin in OTC creams can reduce the redness, inflammation, and scaling caused by psoriasis.  Therefore, it should be applied to skin affected by Psoriasis. Some people can experience a burning sensation at the beginning of its use.

However, more studies are required to confirm the long-term benefits and safety of capsaicin.

Mahonia Aqifolium

It is a powerful antimicrobial herb which plays a role in immune responses.

Studies suggest that the cream containing 10% mahonia can be used to treat various forms of Psoriasis. It should also be used after the recommendations from the doctor as any allergic reactions can cause complication.

Dead Sea Salt

Dead Sea salt can ease the condition of psoriasis. Dead sea salt can be added to bath water and soaking in this water for 15 minutes may help in the removal of scales and reduce itching. Oats

Turmeric

Oregon Grape

Daily baths

Daily bathing helps in the removal of scales associated with psoriasis. It also reduces inflammation. Essential oils, oatmeal or the Dead Sea salt can be added to the water and then, soak to reduce inflammation. Hot water and harsh soaps shouldn’t be used, instead, Luke warm water and the soaps have added oils and fats must be used to avoid dryness.

Moisturizer

Moisturizing is important to prevent dryness and cracking of the skin. Moisturizers must be used after bathing, to prevent the dryness. Heavy, ointment-based moisturizers should be used to keep the skin as moist as possible. In the case of dry skin, oil is also preferable. Oils stay longer than the creams or lotions. Oils are more effective to keep skin hydrated and moist. In this way, it prevents water evaporation from the skin.  During cold weather, psoriasis can get worse because of dryness. Therefore, oils or moisturizers must be applied several times a day.

Sunlight Exposure

Exposure to sunlight is found effective in the improvement of skin affected by psoriasis. For some cases of psoriasis, red scaly patches almost disappeared during summer.

To improve psoriasis, sun exposure is effective, but timing is important. Short sun exposures can be effective while too long exposures can result in sunburn or can worsen the condition. To have this treatment, the patient must try to get adapt to the sun without burning. The use of ultraviolet light is found very effective in many cases of psoriasis. The triggers which can worsen psoriasis should be avoided. Like,

  • Skin Infection worsens the condition of psoriasis.
  • Stress, smoking and long exposures of intense sunlight act as the worse triggers of Psoriasis.
  • Alcohol consumption can lower the effectivity of some psoriasis treatments. Therefore, people suffering from Psoriasis should avoid alcohol.

People already suffering from psoriasis should avoid these triggers.

There are several alternatives which claim to lower the symptoms of psoriasis. No scientific evidence confirms it. Generally, home treatments are safe but still, it can cause allergic responses. Therefore, home treatments should be should only after the consultation of the doctor.
