The changing patterns of average height for women in the USA

The height varies in each woman and it is usually associated with a number of factors. Above all is the area where she was born and belongs. The standard height that you see in most of the American women is 5 feet, 4 inches.

This average height is published as part of a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). The women over 20 years of age were considered for this study. It also tells you about the average height of American men which is approximately 5 feet and 9 inches.

Not just your ethnicity and race but nutrition also affects your height. A person who has a mixed race, different eating habits or an immigrant may differ from these standard parameters.

The average height of women has changed with time

The average height, body shape, and size of women have been evolved with time. Only a few years ago, in the 1960s, the standard height of women was 5 feet 3 inches with an average weight of 140 pounds. For now, this height has been increased to 1 inch and the weight has been increased to 168 pounds that shows these parameters have been evolved with time.

The weight increased at a higher rate then height. It means that weight changes are more frequently occurring than height.

Why is an average increase of womens height is low in the USA?

If you compare stats, the average increase in American women’s height is significantly low than global changes. It has increased but the pattern is too slow which is much higher for other high-income countries, according to a report of 2016 survey.

It was never like this before. In an early 20th century, the American people were considered as one of the tallest men and women of the world. A century later, the things changed.

For now, the Netherlands has the tallest average in men and Latvia has the tallest women average. The changes in height may be linked with the poor nutritional choices and lifestyle changes in US men and women.

Also, a larger number of immigrants, typically with shorter heights gave birth to relatively shorter height kids. All these factors combined to show up as this potential threat.

What are the factors influencing your height?

There are some natural and some lifestyle-based factors that influence the height of women. For example, some of these factors are as follows.

Height is greatly linked with genetics. It is the primary factor that determines your height. The differences in height are 80% due to the specific genetic makeup of a person. For example, the child is more likely to be tall if his parents are tall.

Genetic conditions do not work the same way, always. There are things that affect genetics too. For example, the patients with Turner’s syndrome have shorter heights than normal.

Where a person was born and where he grows up can affect how tall or short they become. Some of the major location-based factors include the following:

  • Water quality
  • Sanitation plan
  • Nutritional requirements
  • Vaccination
  • Healthcare
  • Climatic effect

Hormonal health

You may not believe this but the Human growth hormone (HGH) is helpful to determine a person’s height and similar factors.

It doesn’t matter where he lives or what he eats, if the hormone is not working well, the height will be disturbed.

That is why doctors often prescribe oral HGH supplements to make the height increase in childhood when there is no obvious reason for short height.

Sleeping cycle

It is very necessary to follow a regular sleep cycle. If your sleeping hours are less than 6, you may experience lots of health problems including a short height.

Stress, depression, anxiety, negative feelings and trauma, all of these may harm the brain of the child in developing years. When the child experiences all these troubles, he falls ill more frequently and his body growth is hindered.

Usually, men tend to be taller than women in all regions and all times. For boys, the growth years and puberty lasts longer. Girls don’t grow much in height after 19 or 20 years of age but for boys, it goes until 22 years of age.

Only those men who are genetically short will have shorter heights. They are sometimes shorter or equal to women in the same area. But this is not the case with everyone.

On the other side, the average weight is increasing greatly with time. The men are tending to be 6 inches taller than women.

A few of the many factors that play a part to determine height are sex, nutrition, hormones, genetics, and physical activities.

It is necessary to keep a check on a child’s height till his adolescence. If the height is not increasing with time, the doctor can recommend him to use growth hormone supplements. However, you are not advised to use them by yourself.

Combine the idealistic characters that naturally increase heights of kids such as good food, exercise, hydration etc.

Remember that you cannot increase your height once you have crossed the growth age. There is absolutely no way to increase your height after 25 years of age, for both men and women.
